In the past 7000 years - the whole of recorded human history - the stalactites in White Scar Cave have grown by an average of just 35 centimetres.
In fact, the cave was formed under Ingleborough between 400,000 and 100,000 years ago. This dates back to the very first people on earth.
On a larger scale, you can see that White Scar Cave goes back as far as the very shaping of the Alps during the Ice Ages.
